Weave Chic® Terminology
In order for our clients to gain a better understanding of the whole hair weaving process, we have provided a few of the most commonly used terms in the hair extension industry.
Bonding
Method of attaching weft hair to the natural hair
with a latex or surgical type adhesive.
Commercial Hair
Human Hair used for the purpose of
attachment for hair extensions and weaves. Most commonly found on a weft or in
bulk form. Extension is available in a variety of textures, shades and lengths.
Extension
Process that integrates commercial hair with the
natural hair, to create fullness and length.
Track
A parting or a cornrow that establishes the
placement pattern of wefts.
Quick Weave
Method of attaching hair with a latex-based
adhesive.
Malaysian
A hair extension technique that is completed
without the use of a braided base. A combination of weaving thread and
micro-links may be used in this technique.
Weaving
A hair extension technique, that utilizes a braided
base along the scalp, to attach weft hair.
Weft
Commercial hair
sewn on a fine base and used in the process of hair weaving. The most popular types of wefts available are
machine and hand-tied.
Remy Hair
High
quality commercial hair that contains intact and aligned cuticles. Hair may
also be purchased in its virgin state without chemical processes. Available in a variety of textures, colors, lengths,
and remains the best commercial hair available.
Yaky Hair
Commercial
hair that mimics a coarse relaxed texture .
Lace Front Unit
A wig made of a fine mesh material that
covers the front or entire hairpiece. Adhesive is used to attach the wig. Technique
used to create the illusion of a hairline or full scalp growth. Most commonly used for Alopecia or chemotherapy
patients.
Lace Frontal
A
hairpiece made of a fine mesh material with integrated hair throughout. Technique
only used to cover the front portion of the head to create the illusion of a
hairline. Adhesive is used to attach the unit. Wefts are sewn onto the
remaining base to complete this extension method.
Lace Closure
A small hairpiece made of a fine mesh material
with integrated hair throughout. Most commonly used to close a full head weave
to create the illusion of a scalp. Adhesive may be used to attach the hairpiece.
Individual Rows
Single attachment of weft commercial hair.
Relaxer
Chemical used to alter the curl pattern of the
natural hair.
Maintenance
The care of the natural hair while wear hair
extensions. Also may include tightening
and conditioning of the commercial hair.
Full Sewn In Weave
Hair extension technique that is
completed with a small section of the natural hair exposed.
Full Head Sewn In Weave
Hair extension technique that is
completed with none of the natural hair exposed.
Partial Sewn In Weave
Hair extending technique that uses a
braided base to attach the commercial hair. A good amount of natural hair is
left out between each row.
Net Weave
Hair weaving technique that utilizes the use of a
mesh fabric to created a seamless secure base. Perfect for individuals who
desire a flat install.
Net
Mesh fabric used during the weaving process to
provide coverage to thin or balding areas. Also may serve as a protective
barrier between the natural hair and commercial hair.
